Hello. Thank you for checking out my blog. I absolutely love it when people comment on my posts, sharing their insights and opinions, but I understand that you don’t always have time to say something or have something to say. But every time I look at my stats and see that they have gone up, I am so happy. Even though I won’t always write something inspirational, I hope that when I do, you’re able to take something from this blog.
About Me:
My name is Lori and I’m a college student in Oklahoma. In my close family, I’m the only one born in Oklahoma (everyone else is from Texas). I’m an only child, so I’m really close to my parents. As I’ve gotten older they’ve become friend-ish with me. But overall, they’re pretty amazing people who have been a source of support (both financially and emotionally) for as long as I can remember (and probably before then too). I recently decided to get two degrees, one in English, so I love to read (even though I usually don’t like what my professors are having me read). I could spend hours in a book store. My problem is having so many books that I want to read at once. But I’m getting better at focusing on one at a time. And the other degree is in history, which I’m good at and find fascinating (and I love that my grades don’t always depend on the professor’s opinion of my analysis of a book; with history either it happened or it didn’t).
My hopes and dreams for the future are to finish my undergraduate degrees and then go to law school where I’ll (hopefully) find a husband as well as get my law degree. Then we will have 4 children whose names I’ve already selected (although there’s some wiggle room with the boys’ middle names). During all of this I hope to strengthen my relationship with Christ and serve Him as He sees fit.
If I had to describe my personality, I don’t know what I would tell you. I know the type of person I want to be and the type of person I strive to be are somewhat, moderately, different from the person that I am. I would say that I possess some of Scarlett O’Hara’s (from Gone With the Wind better qualities (determination, loyalty to family, hard-working, etc). And I think I also have some of Dominique Francon’s (from The Fountainhead) qualities. I’m a very passionate person about many of my likes and dislikes. I love being alone to read and think, so much so that I would love to disappear for a few days and check into a hotel room by myself so I can read and think without distractions.
I’m always so impressed by the works of God whether it is an inspiring painting, a beautiful nature scene, or some masterful prose. I find inspiration everywhere, often in the most unexpected places. I’m constantly overwhelmed by the kindness of strangers and often disappointed by the carelessness of those close to me.
As far as books go, I really want to focus on reading the classics (I’ll publish a reading list), but I have a few guilty pleasures that would probably get me kicked out of the English department (Kidding. They probably wouldn’t kick me out, but they’d talk about me) My favorite novels are Gone With the Wind, To Kill a Mockingbird, Catch-22, and The Fountainhead. I’ve gotten into reading biographies and autobiographies about or by people that inspire or fascinate me.
I grew up in a Christian home where I pretty much followed the teachings without much thought, which is something I want to change (meaning, I want to be more conscious and active in my religious practices and thoughts). My sophomore year of college I lived a life I’m not very proud of, with people that were bad influences. I don’t blame them for how I acted though because I made my own decisions. But I had to distance myself from them because I realized that I was making poor decisions and I knew better. Therefore, I turned to God with zeal, enriching my personal devotional relationship with Him. I haven’t been going to church regularly because I’m not regularly in one place on Sunday. I do attend a dinner and Bible study at a local church and I love it.
I love hearing from people who are reading my blog, so feel free, no feel encouraged, to leave a comment or write me an email at LLindsey217@aol.com
Have a blessed day!
Happy New Year! I just discovered your blog from chicks on lit and want to tell you that I love it. Reading lets me remember my college days (’02 grad), which I enjoyed so much. You’ve definitely inspired me to write/journal more. Thank you.
